The Art of Packing
Comments
Whether you are moving house, going on holiday or getting ready for a multi-day backpacking adventure, the way you pack can make a huge difference. If you pack properly, you will be able to not only fit in all those things that you will need, but you will also be sure that they are in good shape and accessible when you need them. Make your life easier and check out some of the following great tips on mastering the art of packing.
Have a List
One of the best things that you can do to help yourself pack effectively is to have a list of everything that needs to be packed and then check it off as you pack it. This simple idea is a sure way for you to avoid forgetting anything and will help you to feel less overwhelmed by the enormity of the task.
Be Space Efficient
The best way to be efficient with space when packing is to know your load really well. This is where having a list will help as you can go over the list and try and picture how you’ll be able to fit everything in. It’s amazing how much extra you can fit in if you use up every little bit of space. If you are using removalists or even interstate removalists they will take care of packing the truck for you, but you can still help by having everything sorted into different sizes of things to be packed.
Label Everything
If you are packing things into boxes, make sure you label exactly what is in each box, as this may save you lots of time and hassle later on. If some of your boxes are particularly heavy, it is also a good idea to label them so that no one throws their back out lifting an unexpectedly heavy box.
Protect Fragile Items
Make sure that all of your stuff makes it where it’s going in one piece by spending as long as you need to ensure everything is properly padded and protected. This is a crucial task and one that is not to be taken lightly, so get yourself a big load of bubble wrap or tissue paper and be sure that all of your more fragile items are properly protected.
Distribute Weight
Whether you are packing a box or a backpack, always place heavier items towards the bottom and lighter items at the top. This will prevent things from being crushed and also from moving around lots while in transit. It will also make it easier to carry, as you’ll be directly supporting the heaviest part of the load.
Don’t Pack Things You Still Need to Use
Make sure you don’t pack away items that you need to have access to, like toothbrushes, coffee makers, etc. It’s a good idea to keep one box for things to pack at the last minute so you can just load up those very last items just before you walk out the door. This will save you having to dig through sealed boxes to find that item you need to use one last time.
