How to Organise a Trouble-Free Removal

Moving house is not a simple task by any stretch of the imagination. You cannot simply call interstate removalists and expect everything to happen smoothly, you have to plan well in advance to make sure you have covered every important point and save yourself the stress that many others have experienced when moving house.

With some careful preparation and developing a few detailed checklists you can insure a stress free move that goes off without a hitch, but be prepared to put in a bit of work beforehand. In the first case you had to choose your removalist company according to your budget and individual needs. You may want them to do all the packing for you or you may wish to do some of the packing yourself or even hire a truck and do everything. The point is, you need to work out the costs and logistics to make your decision well in advance so that the move takes place efficiently on the planned day.

Here are some of the things you can do to put an effective plan in place.

  • Make sure you have adequate insurance cover especially if you have valuable antiques which need to be removed. Removalist companies may offer a specialist service in this regard, but if not you should phone your insurance company and make sure you have adequate cover.
  • Decide on a date. This is usually an easy decision to make but remember that you can save money on your removalists costs by moving mid week rather than at the end of the week or on weekends. Naturally, this is a budget decision but certainly worth considering under any circumstances.
  • Perform a detailed inventory of all your furniture and personal items so that you can tick them off as they are moved and ticked off again when they are placed in the appropriate room in your new home.
  • Label all your furniture and boxes so that they can be easily relocated into the appropriate space in your new house. Use coloured stickers or numbers to differentiate each room.
  • Make sure the children are taken care of on the day of the move by asking relatives or friends to look after them for you. This can remove a lot of stress on the day because you know your children are being adequately cared for.
  • Make sure all of your utilities like electricity and telephone services are cancelled and that the bills are paid up-to-date when you move. Many people who forget to do this find themselves with an adverse listing on the credit report which can be difficult to explain next time they apply for a loan.
  • If you are doing the move yourself, order sufficient boxes in a variety of sizes and make sure you have plenty of packing paper and tape to seal the boxes efficiently.

These simple steps will make it easy for your removalists to make your move successful and stress free
